Message

My research and entrepreneurial experience over the past 30-odd years has taught me that without original innovation, it is impossible to gain competitive advantages in the industry or develop disruptive technologies and products with international influence. It is important to learn that intellectual property is key to innovation. At present, some problems remain to be solved in innovation, especially for research institutions that are enablers of innovation: Few research institutions have turned their original research findings into business results, and the group at large does not provide sufficient support for the industrial revolution and upgrading. So mechanism is the key to solving the problem. Talent and mechanism are the two pillars of innovation, but obviously, the current mechanism of innovation remains to be improved. Now we need to create a new innovation-driven business model so as to promote the commercialization of original research findings and sustainable development of the industry. An effective approach to this is to bring in competitive mechanisms and business models. With the goal of forming new intellectual property and producing more original research results, research institutions can use their intellectual property and results as an in-kind contribution to form a new company, attract new investments, and promote the commercialization of the results to form a virtuous cycle. So far, we have made great breakthroughs in the key technologies of micro-/nanodevices. For example, we have carried out the R&D and application of "equipment and instruments for large-scale micro/nano manufacturing", "micro and nano interface engineering and devices", "flexible micro/nano imprint lithography" and "functional optoelectronic materials and devices". We have set up an innovation platform for "modular, knowledge-intensive, upgradeable and rapidly configurable" micro-nano flexible manufacturing, which is on par with the specialized tech platforms in developed countries in terms of technology portfolio and foundation. We continue to promote cooperation and innovation across the industry chain, and have developed applications with profound impact in the industry. In the interdisciplinary fields of nano-optics, smart manufacturing, and new materials, we have developed or will create a series of major target products. Focusing on the major segments of flexible optoelectronics, we have built an innovation-driven organization that rapidly translates R&D results into business results. "Developing new productive forces is the inherent requirement and crucial focus for promoting high-quality development, with technological innovation being the core element."I shall lead my team, with micro-nano photonics manufacturing as the driving force of innovation, to steadfastly serve the frontiers of research, elevate industrial capabilities, and address the critical demands of our nation. We are determined to overcome the challenge of "relying heavily on external sources for both raw materials and markets", constructing an innovation ecosystem centered on enterprises and fostering efficient collaboration between industry, academia, research, and application. Through technological breakthroughs, we will propel industrial innovation, embarking on a path of profound transformation and upgrading. Furthermore, we shall relentlessly explore the untapped potential of the optoelectronics industry, striving for high-level technological self-reliance and self-strengthening.
